Sakima Lawal, a young mum has been sentenced to jail by a Katsina State Senior Magistrates' Court for attempting to sell her 32-day-old twins for N350,000 in December last year.
Lawal, who resides at Marabar kankara town in the Malumfashi Local Government Area of the state, was however, given an option of N10,000 fine by the court.
The presiding magistrate, Nuradeen El- Laden,in his judgement explained that Lawal, was given a light sentence due to the health of the twins and that of herself, adding that a mother attempting to sell her children might have done so due to abject poverty.
The judge also noted that the convict and her babies had spent some days in prison custody and that the mother has shown remorse for her action.
Reports also have it that a woman, who preferred to remain anonymous, offered to pay the fine on behalf of the convict.
