Mr. Alaka Abayomi, a Lagos-based businessman, has vehemently denied having anything to do with the dreaded Badoo gang terrorising Ikorodu and environs. This is coming a few days after the police arrested him.
According to The Sun, Abayomi, a popular petrol station owner, was arrested alongside the baale of Ipakodo by the police and detained for 72 hours.
Speaking at a press briefing yesterday, the businessman said: "It was a frame-up and the police did not investigate before arresting me. I am challenging the police to make public their findings linking me to Badoo cult group.
"I was invited by the police on July 18, 2017, and I honoured the invitation, where I made a statement in writing. I was asked if I belonged to the Badoo cult group and I told them that I did not belong to the group. After the interrogation, I was allowed to go home, only for the police to storm my house at Magodo and told me the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations wanted to see me. I followed them. On our way to the state police command, they stopped and picked two other persons.
"Getting to the state command, I was detained and no one told me what offence I committed until the following day, when they brought me out and put me in a vehicle with press men and asked me to take them to my deity at Agbowa, in Ikorodu. I took them there. They searched everywhere and nothing incriminating was found.
"I have this deity, which I have been worshipping for over 30 years. As far as I know, in Ikorodu alone, there are over 100 deities people worship and nobody questioned them.
"The police searched everywhere and nothing incriminating was found, yet they tagged me a murderer and a leader of Badoo cult.
"If I am a leader and belong to the Badoo cult group, would the police release me?
"For 30 good years I have lived in Ikorodu; people know me as a businessman and know the type of business I do, but only God would vindicate me."
"I worshipped what I believe in and I did not know it is a crime. All of us belong to a different religious group; all the same, I know someone is trying to tarnish the image I have built for a long time."
