The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Most Rev. Mathew Hassan Kukah says no country in the world employs more than 5 percent of its citizens, stressing that not everyone must be an office holder before exercising leadership.
The cleric said that to dismiss the assertion in some quarters that to be able to exercise leadership, one must be President or Governor or Local Government Chairman. He, therefore, urged Nigerian youths to be problem solvers rather than being the problem.
Kukah was speaking to newsmen on Friday, at the opening ceremony of the 3rd National Mission Congress of Nigeria (NAMICON III), held in Abuja. The national congress themedTogether on mission ... the Church goes forth.
Speaking recently ahead of the congress, Fr. George Ajana, the Director of Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) Nigeria, told the Catholic News Services of Nigeria (CNSNg) in Abuja that the congress will, among others things discuss the progress made with the implementation of the various decisions of the two previous congresses; successes achieved and challenges experienced.
It will be recalled that the first mission congress took place in Onitsha, Anambra State, while the second congress was held in Ibadan.
Fr. Ajana noted that the congress is unique as it is coming in the Year of Consecrated Life, declared by Pope Francis. "Furthermore, according to the theme of the congress, the call is for the Church in Nigeria to go on mission," the PMS Director declared.
