The only Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member in the House of Representatives from Oyo State, Hon. Segun Odebunmi on Wednesday led over 5,000 members of the party to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Odebunmi, popularly known as Bonvic, who represents Surulere/ Ogo Oluwa Federal Constituency disclosed that his decision to join APC was influenced by the decision of his people and political associates.
Odebunmi maintained that the decision became necessary after the realization that PDP leaders were not ready for genuine reconciliation, and the assurance that APC will bring more goods and development to the people.
He also declared his support for second term ambition of President Muhammadu Buhari, expressing optimism that the President will bring about the desired positive change.
Odebunmi said "I told my people to interact and decide on where to go, and that is the result of what we are doing today. I am sure that our movement to APC will bring more goods and development to our people.
"Since my early days in politics, I have not been taking decisions on my own, apart from God, my people are the next and they have been very supportive; so, whatever they say I will do.
"Immediately we discovered that the leaders in PDP are not ready for genuine reconciliation, I told them to interface with people and decide on where to go and that is the result of what we are doing today and I am sure that our movement to APC will bring more goods and development to our people."
After a thorough deliberation, the motion to drop PDP was raised by Mr. Bode Akanni and seconded by Chief Olaniyan Olatunji from Surulere local government area of Oyo State.
Also speaking on why they should leave the PDP, Chief Isaac Olawale Atayese said the need to leave the party was necessitated by the injustice and unfair treatment meted out to them after the reconciliation.
