Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike of Rivers State, has sensationally declared that most of the kidnapping and armed robbery incidents in the State are being perpetrated by operatives of the Police Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
SARS has come in for plenty of stick from members of the public in recent times.
The special unit of the Nigeria police force is often accused of extra-judicial killings from dingy cell rooms amid human rights violations.
According to the Governor, the Police Signal stated that SARS is responsible for a series of kidnappings and deadly robbery operations across the State.
Gov Wike said;
"Most of the kidnappings and armed robbery taking place in this state are done by men of SARS,"
"They use exhibit vehicles to operate. As the Chief Security Officer of the state, you complain, but they choose to play politics with crime."
He went on to blast the Rivers State Special Anti-robbery Squad Commander, Mr Akin Fakorede, claiming that his criminal activities were uncovered by the Inspector General of Police X Squad that was deployed in the state.
Then he turned his attention to political opponents, insisting they are trying to create an atmosphere of fear in Rivers ahead of 2019
