Bailout funds: Buhari's government is the real enemy of the people - Hon. Omogbehin

The lawmaker representing Okitipupa/Irele federal constituency of Ondo State, Hon. Mike Negwo Omogbehin has stated that the bailout to states by the federal government would tie them to the apron strings of the federal government, adding that it would make Nigeria appear to be practising a unitary system of government.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with DAILY POST yesterday, he said; "The culture of handouts in guise of bailout funds to states portrays a unitary system of government because states now are tied to apron strings of the Federal government where they begin to lose their independence as well."

He maintained that the federal government is a debtor to all states of the federation because of the huge deductions from federal allocation and loans taken as well as the lack of reimbursement of federal government contracts executed by those states. He then declared that a debtor cannot lend money to a creditor.

"Buhari led government is the real enemy of the people because of huge deductions from Federal allocation to States, all forms of loans which FG deducts on their behalf and lack of reimbursement for federal government projects executed by states," the lawmaker elected on the platform of the PDP posited.

Omogbehin lamented that legislators have been painted badly by the Executive, hence, Nigerians could no longer challenge the unconstitutionality of what the current administration was doing.

The lawmaker wondered how the states could get loans from the federal government with interest to pay workers salaries who do not get interest for arrears of salaries owed them, but the states end up servicing such loans with interest.

"Don't blame states for their inability to pay workers salaries, because they get this bail out with interest which they service at the end of the day without paying interest to workers for arrears, so how will there be enough funds?", he asked.

He advised state governors to stop using loans to service non-interest generating expenditure, adding that they should refocus their citizens towards skill acquisitions rather than the conventional civil service system.
