Abducted S'Leonean envoy rescued

The Deputy High Commissioner of Sierra Leone in Nigeria, Maj. Gen. Alfred Nelson William, who was kidnapped along Abuja- Kaduna last Friday, has regained his freedom.

Willliam was rescued by the police on Tuesday and has reunited with the High Commission and his family.

The Force Public Relations, Donald Awunah, confirmed it last night in an SMS.

It read, "The ambassador was released at about 16:00hrs along Abuja- Kaduna Road.

"Following credible intelligence and technical support, there was intense police activities on both land and air patrol within the area. The General is feasibly in good condition.

"The acting IGP, Ibrahim Idris, wishes to assure the members of the Diplomatic Corps and other foreign nationals of their safety and security in Nigeria."

The police however did not say if ransom was paid for the envoy's release or not.

His abductors had earlier demanded N30m ransom during negotiations with embassy officials.
