Fashion is ever changing and evolving and every season brings about something different. Now that 2018 is behind us, it's important that we look back at memorable fashion trends that emerged and got everyone's attention.
Some trends had heavy 80's and 90's influences and that's perfectly normal as Fashion tends to draw inspiration from previous decades as it goes on.
Here are some of the fashion trends that had everyone buzzing;
Oversized Clothes & Jackets
Oversized clothes especially Jackets and Tees were hugely popular in 2018 especially among fashion-forward Nigerians and the hipsters in Lagos.
High fashion brands like Balenciaga and Calvin Klein sent their models strutting down the runway in oversized coats and this further validated the trend and boosted morale because fashion models were pulling it off.
Artistes like Rihanna further made the look accepted because she was 'serving looks' is oversized clothes.
Big 'Ugly' Shoes
'Ugly' sneakers also known as "dad sneakers" were all the craze last season.
Although this trend wasn't exactly new, it showed no sign of slowing down as celebrities and influencers couldn't get enough of it. Scrolling through Instagram you'd think there was a giveaway you weren't invited to because everyone seemed to have one. This was because both high fashion brands like Gucci and Louis Vuitton and sports brands like Nike and Fila all had shoes in that design so everyone ranging from the big spenders to the average fashionable person could cop a pair.
2018 saw the transition of tracksuits from sportswear to fashion pieces. Brands like Gucci, Fendi, Adidas, Louis Vuitton and others went full throttle into the production of tracks and influencers seemed to be the biggest peddlers. Tracksuits fast became most celebrities outfit of choice for performances as we saw A-listers like Wizkid, Davido, Tiwa Savage among others rocking tracks at their shows.
This was definitely one of the biggest fashion fads of 2018, especially among the younger hip crowd. Celebrities like Davido, Kizz Daniel and even Swae Lee were spotted rocking Fanny packs in their Instagram photos and this further drove its popularity.
High fashion brands like Gucci and Fendi were the most sought after as everyone wanted to rock Gucci like their favourite celebs.
Denim has always been in vogue and the fact that it can be worn a million different ways means it would never go out of style. Celebrities like Rihanna and Kylie Jenner had viral denim looks last year and that got people to fall even more in love with it and pushed them to try their own creative looks with denim. Calvin Klein under the creative direction of Raf Simmons had a denim inspired campaign that featured celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Kendall Jenner, A$AP Rocky among others.
