The police has reveavled that a car-snatching syndicate led by a soldier has been smashed by the police in Borno State.
According to Punch Metro, briefing newsmen on the success made by police in Borno State on Tuesday, the Commissioner of Police, Damien Chukwu, said, "Between 12/10/2017 and 13/10/2017, four members of a five-man gang that specialised in the theft of vehicles within Maiduguri metropolis and other states of the country were arrested."
He said the suspects included a military personnel whose identity was being withheld pending disciplinary action by the military.
Other members of the alleged syndicate include Mohammed Bukar, alias Daddy; Ali Musa alias Soja; Ibrahim Mohammed alias Babrick; saying the fifth member of the gang was in the custody of Police in neighbouring Yobe State.
He said, "the suspects have all made confessional statement to the effect that they stole seven vehicles in Maiduguri and environs, and that the vehicles were sold outside Borno State."
Chukwu, who said efforts were being made to recover the vehicles, disclosed that the police went on the trail of the syndicate when a Honda Civic with registration number MKA 940 AH (Kaduna) parked at the premises of a bank in Maiduguri was stolen.
He said two other vehicles earlier reported stolen were also recovered from the syndicate when teams of Special Anti-Robbery Squad from both Borno and Yobe states swooped in on the suspects.
He added that two persons, a male and female, who were abducted by Boko Haram over three years ago in Bama and Gwoza were also rescued on Monday.
He said the victims had escaped from their captors in Sambisa Forest amidst aerial bombardment by the Nigerian Air Force.
