Man Sent to Prison for Flashing Mobile Phone Light at Oba's Palace at Night

A 29-year old man, Nurudeen Fatai has reportedly committed a sacrilege after he flashed his phone's touch light at the Oba's Palace at night in Lagos.

The incident happened at the Oba of Ijegun's Palace in Ijegun land in the outskirts of Lagos.

Fatai was apprehended and handed over to the police at Isheri Oshun Division who charged him before a Lagos court for the alleged offence.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in charged of the Station, CSP Camellius Emordi reportedly ordered him to be charged for wandering and conduct likely to cause breach of public peace for pointing his mobile phone flash light into the Oba's complex.

He was charged before the Magistrates court sitting in Ejigbo where he pleaded not guilty.

The presiding Magistrate, Mr A.O. Ogba granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition.

The matter was adjourned till 18th of September, 2017.

It was also gathered that what Fatai did amounted to sacrilege as such if it were in the past he would have been sanctioned to death but civilization saved him to go to prison only.

When our correspondent went to the monarch's palace to find out what actually happened, the reporter was told that it was not possible to see the monarch over the matter.

However, palace sources said what Fatai did was disrespectful to the monarch by flashing light at the palace which he said was a taboo in Yoruba land.

What involved the police in the matter was what the residents said they could not comprehend.
