Man docked for allegedly stealing motorcycle valued N200,000

The Police on Monday arraigned one Bidemi Olanipetu, in an Ikeja Magistrates' Court for allegedly stealing a motorcycle valued N200,000 belonging to one Mustapha Garba.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Mike Unah told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 17 at No. 22 Igbeyinadun St., Oshodi, Lagos.

He said that the defendant conspired with others now at large, to steal the motorcycle valued at N220,000.

According to Unah, the defendant borrowed the motorcycle from Garba, with a promise to return it same day.

The prosecutor further said that Olanipetu, who had the intention of stealing the motorcycle did not return it.
"The complainant said that all efforts made to reach Olanipetu on phone proved abortive.

"Garba said that when he did not hear from the accused after a week, he decided to report the matter to the police.

" The complainant said that the accused was traced to his apartment, where he was apprehended and taken to the police station.

"Garba also claimed that the accused had sold the motorcycle before he was caught by the police, " Unah said.

The accused, who resides at Oshodi area of Lagos, pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Section 287 prescribes three years imprisonment for stealing.

The Magistrate, Mrs A.O. Gbajumo, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000, with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until July 31 for mention.
