At least four persons have been feared dead in a suicide bomb attack at the Dalori Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps 1 and 2 in Maiduguri on Sunday night.
The North-East Zonal Information Officer of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mr Abdulkadir Ibrahim, confirmed this in a statement issued on Monday, July 24, 2017.
He said that around midnight, "two suicide bombers (a male and female) detonated their improvised explosive device at Dalori 1 IDPs camp leading to the death of three IDPs while seventeen others were injured".
"Another incident occurred at Dalori 2 IDP camp where a suicide bomber was intercepted leading to the death of the attacker.
"Injured persons have been administered with first aid and moved to hospitals in Maiduguri".
NAN also quoted a reliable security source as saying that a female suicide bomber was shot by security men when she tried to cross the perimeter fence at the camp.
"They shot her and the explosive device strapped to her body detonated, and blew the woman into pieces," the source said.
The source added that a male suicide bomber had also infiltrated the camp and detonated the explosives strapped to his body and killed four persons.
"Two persons died on the spot while two others died at the hospital," the source added.
Dalori is a suburban town near Maiduguri, Borno, Nigeria. Since March 2015, it hosts one of the largest internally displaced persons camp created during the Boko Haram insurgency, with more than 15,000 people, most of them coming from the South-East of Borno State.
