A 25-year-old armed robbery suspect, Alidu Shola, who was arrested by the police has expressed surprise that the police arrested him for stealing a tricycle without being caught in the act. In his confession, Shola said:
"I am a driver by profession. I came from Osun State. I was arrested in my area where I used to rest after my daytime job. I did not expect the police as my visitor. I was enjoying my drink when the police came. See, I really stole the motorcycle but it was a long time ago. I carried the Keke (tricycle) to where I later sold it to one Aboki N60, 000 and used the money to feed.
"It was through information that the police came after me. Even the Aboki who bought the tricycle has travelled back to the north and I cannot trace him.
Even on the operation for which I was arrested, my accomplice bolted with the things we got, including cash and phone. I have since stopped stealing and am busy driving a bus for somebody. I used to render N5, 000 to him every day. My route is Ojota to Ojodu Berger. I used to go home with N1, 500 or N2, 000 everyday and my conduct used to go home with the same amount because we share money equally (50-50).
However, the Officer in charge of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (O/C SARS), Chief Superintendent of Police Akinade Adejobi, said on July 1, 2016, a case of conspiracy and armed robbery as well as recovery of arms and ammunition was transferred from the Abattoir Divisional Police Headquarters, Oko-Oba, Agege, Lagos, involving with one suspect named Sunday Kunle. It was reported by one Prince Lukas of No. 10, Oko-Oba Road, Power Line, Agege, Lagos. He added that on June 30, 2016 at about 9:00 p.m., two armed men entered her shop and robbed her of two laptop computers, six different types of phones and the sum of N280, 000 being the sales made for the day.
One of them was arrested with the help of her neighbours, and one locally made pistol, four live cartridges and one laptop was recovered from him while his partner took to his heels with the mentioned items.
The suspect paraded with Shola, and who identified himself as Sunday Kunle, aged 23, said: "I learnt to be a mechanic before my father died.
When I could not get money to build a workshop, my friends lured me into armed robbery. In my first attempt, I was arrested and sent to prison. I met Olamide in prison and he gave me his phone number when he left prison.
"When we met him, he had a gun. Two of us went for robbery and he (Olamide) escaped with the N280, 000, six phones, two laptops and I was arrested. We were a two-man gang; Olamide and me. I don't know Shola Alidu. He is not my gang member. It is the same police handling my case that are in charge of his case. Our cases are different."
