Seven Men Sentenced To 19 Years Imprisonment For Rape Of School Girl In Chad

Seven men have been sentenced to 10 years for the rape and kidnapping a schoolgirl in the Chadian capital, Ndjamena.

Some of the men come from families with close links to the government. One has escaped from custody.

The victim, Zouhoura, is the daughter of an opposition leader and was threatened with death if she spoke about the attack.

A video of her rape sparked a wave of protests in Chad in February. The high-profile case even got Chad's long-serving President Idriss Deby involved.

He denounced the "barbaric, shameful and unspeakable act" and promised that justice would be done.

Zouhoura said she had to speak out after what happened to her, according to the Associated Press, adding "there has never been justice before over the rape of a Chadian woman".

She spent most of her life in Paris before moving back to Chad.
