Arsenal finally record first win in 3 Premier League matches following win over Southampton

Southampton vs Arsenal saw the Gunners secure their first win since the Premier League win in three matches.

Mikel Arteta's side scored in each half of the match through Eddie Nketiah and Joe Willock.

Goalkeeper Alex McCarthy was at fault for the Saints' concession of the first goal as his failure to make up his mind following a back pass helped forward Nketiah to the ball to slot home in an unguarded net.

The Gunners were far from their best during the game which saw striker Pierre Emerick Aubameyang strike the post within the first five minutes of the game.

Aubameynang was instrumental for the visitors' second goal as a foul on the Gabon international by Jack Stephens resulted in a red card for the hosts late on.

From the resulting free-kick, Willock calmly finished the ball into the back of the net after Lazazzette's effort was blocked.

It was a much-needed win for Arteta's men, whose return to the league since lockdown was riddled by injuries and uncertain performances.

One notable absentee in the game for Arsenal was Matteo Guendouzi, who was conspicuously missing from Mikel Arteta's squad.

Arteta seemed to suggest prior to the game that the Frenchman was struggling with disciplinary issues since his spat with Brighton's Neil Maupay days earlier.

Arsenal's win takes them back to 10th on the log with 43 points and there is still plenty of work for the Gunners to do if they are to keep their European dreams alive.
