Tears in Spain as exciting football star dies after drowning in canal, the club announce

Jorge Sanchez Vaca has sent the Spanish footballing world into shock after the news of the Las Palmas' youngster's death broke over the weekend.

The club announced the death of the player who fell to his death at the Orellana Canal near Don Benito, in the province of Badajoz, southwestern Spain.

A 17-year-old, Vaca was reportedly with his 15-year-old friend as at the time of the incident.

It was gathered that the friend whose identity has not been revealed by authorities also died.

Full details of what led to the incident have not yet been revealed by authorities as investigation to the incident has commenced.

"UD Las Palmas are deeply saddened by the death of our former academy player Jorge Sánchez Vaca who, coming from UD Jandía de Fuerteventura, had planned to join our U19s next season.

We send our condolences to his family and friends. Rest in peace," the club wrote on Twitter.

Until his death, Vaca was a promising lad who was progressing towards becoming a first team player.

It was gathered that he spent the season on loan at non-league UD Jandia this term, and expected to join Las Palmas U19 squad for next season. UD Jandia also expressed their condolences, stating: "One of the saddest days in our club's history, we don't have the words to describe the pain which has overcome us in these moments."

Also, Togolese striker Kossi Kuodagba who went back home due to the lockdown has reportedly died in his home country after falling ill with malaria.

The ASC Kara striker finished the Togolese season as top scorer for two years in a row helping his club to win the league also in 2019.

He left Kara with the season suspended because of coronavirus to stay with relatives in Devie, says the BBC.
