How far would you be willing to go for the chance to be up close with a player considered one of the very best to kick a football?

For many, they would not think twice when the opportunity to have a moment with the great Lionel Messi presents itself.

Amid heightened fear and caution due to the coronavirus pandemic, one desperate fan decided to risk it all on Saturday, June 13, during the Mallorca-Barcelona game.

The game was the most anticipated in the weekend as La Liga resumed on June 11 albeit behind closed doors.

The fan, who wore a Messi shirt, emerged from the stands at the San Moix stadium midway through the second half and desperately made his way towards Messi's direction.

At the time, Barcelona were well in control of the game courtesy of goals from Arturo Vidal and Martin Braithwaite.

The daring fan's mission was almost a success but he was quelled by security staff wearing masks and was eventually hobbled off the pitch.

Messi could only watch in amazement as the young fan broke down in tears at his missed opportunity.

Football stars usually have a tendency to exhibit some compassion and reach out to the pitch invaders but with the coronavirus pandemic still around, Messi did not take any chances.

If the lad was truly a Barcelona fan, he would take solace in the fact that his idol Messi registered a goal and two assists in the game, the most of any player in the La Liga this season.
