Former WWE star Shad Gaspard has been confirmed as among a group of swimmers missing at the sea following a beach swim.

It is believed Gaspard was joined by his wife and 10-year-old son during the Sunday, May 17, swimming escapade at Venice Beach in Los Angeles.

Daily Star reports the wrestler went into the water along with his son and group of others before they were caught in a strong rip current.

Lifeguards had to reportedly go in to rescue the swimmers, with Gaspard's son understood to be among those saved.

However, the former WWE star is yet to be located, with an official from the LA Fire Department divulging an adult "did submerge."

A message on the 39-year-old's missing has since been shared on his Instagram story saying : "Missing! Last seen wearing swim shorts."

"If you have seen Shad please message me. Please don't flood me asking what happened. We want to know if he's been seen and where. Thank you," the post continued.

Gaspard made his WWE bow in 2003, with his last appearance in the ring coming during a SmackDown episode back in 2010.

He was part of the Cryme Tyme tav team that also included JTG.

He went on to become the one contender for the Unified WWE Tag Team Championship when he defeated The Hart Dynasty.
