Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier has been charged by the FA for an incident which saw him dramatically climb the stands to confront a fan during the FA Cup loss to Norwich City.
The 26-year-old, in full glare of cameras, leaped over the advertising boards and climbed several steps on the West stand to try to reach to a fan who allegedly disrespected his brother.
Dier was also pictured arguing with supporters in the stands. Initial reports suggested Dier was trying to defend his brother who was the first one to get into a spat with irate supporters.
However, after review from the FA, the midfielder was deemed to have been out of order and was eventually charged for misconduct.
"Eric Dier has been charged with misconduct for a breach of FA Rule E3.
It is alleged that the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder's actions at the conclusion of the Emirates FA Cup fixture against Norwich City FC on Wednesday March 4 2020 were improper and/or threatening," a statement from the FA read. Dier has until May 8 to respond to the charges.
Because of the unusual nature of the incident, the FA did not necessarily indicate what would be the fine or ban that came with Dier's actions.
According to The Sun, at the time of the incident, one fan was reportedly hurling a string of "horrendous" insults towards Dier, prompting the midfielder's brother Patrick to intervene.
Norwich keeper Tim Krul was the match winner at the time as he saved two penalties to ensure The Canaries proceeded to he FA Cup quarter-finals for the first time in 28 years.
