Lionel Messi in big trouble as Barcelona snub him and name World Cup winner as club's best ever

Barcelona fans have snubbed their highest goals scorer Lionel Messi in favour of countryman Diego Maradona as the club's greatest player of all-time.

The Catalans supporters were said to have voted for the 59-year-old who spent just two seasons at the Camp Nou ahead of the six-time Ballon d'Or winner.

According to the poll conducted by Ranker and was published by the Sun, Messi came in as the second best after the one-time World Cup winner.

Maradona was clearly the fans' choice while Ronaldinho, Johan Cruyff, and Andres Iniesta completing the top five best for the club.

The Spaniard remains the most decorated Spanish footballer ever with 35 major titles with both club and country.

While Cruyff's philosophy still lingers on at the club several years after leaving them to pursue other goals.

Neymar is the most expensive player in the world at the moment and the four years he spent at the Catalan club produced memorable moments.

He was inspirational for Barca especially in their dramatic comeback against Paris Saint Germain in the Champions League a few years back.
