De Bruyne reveals how Guardiola surprised Man City players before Real Madrid win

Manchester City midfielder, Kevin De Bruyne, has revealed that manager Pep Guardiola surprised his own players, with his starting XI to face Real Madrid in the Champions League last-16 first leg on Wednesday night.

Guardiola left Raheem Sterling, Sergio Aguero and David Silva on the bench at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Isco put Real in front, before Gabriel Jesus made it 1-1 and De Bruyne scored the winner from the penalty spot.

"In four years with Pep, he sometimes surprises," De Bruyne told reporters after the game.

"Sometimes players aren't told until the game what we need to do."

City play Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup final this Sunday.
