Mourinho humbles Guardiola again as Tottenham record emphatic victory over Man City

Tottenham vs Man City ended 2-0 in favour of Jose Mourinho's side in an entertaining fixture played in north London.

Two second half goals from newly-signed Steven Bergwijn and Son Heung-Min gave Spurs all three points on the night.

The first half produced no goals to either sides but it was marred with controversies surrounding a penalty awarded to Man City.

Sergio Aguero was tackled by Serge Aurier as referee Mike Dean demonstrated that it was not a foul but two and half minutes later, the VAR notified the on scored board that it was a penalty.

Spurs players were furious at the decision as Ilkay Gundogan leaned towards the ball to take the spot-kick which Lloris saved.

The French goalkeeper tried to prevent the rebound from Raheem Sterling as the Englishman seemed to have dived as the referee pointed to the spot again.

There was a bit of a scuffle between City and Tottenham players as officials got into the field to restore calm, only for the VAR to reverse the decision.

Spurs players expected Sterling who had earlier been booked to be sent off for diving but all protests fell on deaf ears.

Instead Toby Alderweireld and Olexandr Zinchenko were booked. City almost took the lead at the start of the second half as Lloris and Japhet Tanganga got in each other's way before Aguero attempted to score into an empty net.

Alderweireld was on hand to make the block which fell to Sterling as he laid it for Gundogan who blazed his shot well over the bar.

The defending champions were reduced to ten men after Zinchenko obstructed Aaron Winks' counter-attacking move on the hour mark as the Ukrainian was shown a red card.

Tottenham got their noses in front three minutes later through their latest signing Bergwijn. the Dutchman was given time and space to control the ball with his chest as volleyed home the ball to make it 1-0.

Son the added the second in the 73rd minute after a brilliant assist from Touquay Ndombele as the Korean put the ball beyond Ederson in goal.

Tottenham held on as the match ended in favour of the London club.
