Liverpool becomes 2nd EPL team to win FIFA World Cup after beating Flamengo to win the title

Liverpool clinch their first-ever FIFA World Cup title following their slim victory over Brazilian topflight side Flamengo at the Khalifa International Stadium on Saturday, December 21. 

A lone strike from Roberto Firmono was all the current European champions needed to defeat the south American side. 

The Brazilian forward scored the only goal of the match in the 99th minute after both sides failed to find the back of the net after 90 minutes. 

Firmino, 28, powered home a close-range shot from a Sadio Mane's assist to fire the Merseyside outfit to glory at the world stage. 

Jurgen Klopp's men have now become the second Premier League team to have lofted the title in the history of the competition. 

Although they had a chance to win it in 2005 but succumbed to Sao Paolo 1-0 at the end of the meeting.  

Despite fielding a very strong squad, the European champions had difficulties breaking into the opposition's danger zone. 

Liverpool made several efforts to but none could find the back of the net until the match stretched into extra time.
