Barcelona to offer Messi 1 special christmas gift which will keep him at Camp Nou

Barcelona are reportedly planning to offer their captain Lionel Messi a new bumper deal which will see him stay at the club until the summer of 2023.

The 32-year-old's current deal is expected to lapse in about 18 months from now and the club wants their star player to end his career at his boyhood club.

Messi penned a deal around £100 million with the club in 2017 including add-ons and signing bonuses.

According to SunSport, Barca chiefs are expected to travel to Argentina to negotiate a new deal with the five-time Ballon d'Or winner.

Barcelona face Alaves in their last La Liga game this year but it is unsure if the 32-year-old would be available for the fixture.

SunSport reports the forward has returned to his country to recover and spend time with his family for the holidays.

He said: "Leo Messi will still play with us for the next two, three, four or five years. I have no doubts about that.

"Surely it will be the wish of all parties, if he (Lionel Messi) feels strong and ambitious, to extend this contract indefinitely.

"Ultimately it is he who must decide. He has earned the right to decide when he will stop playing football. But like he said a few weeks ago, he wants to finish his playing career at Barcelona."

Meanwhile, it is not sure if Messi would be willing to extend his reign at Camp Nou having spent close to two decades at the club.

He broke into the club's first team in 2005 and since then has led then to back-to-back glory both on the continent and domestically.
