Spanish FA to step-up security ahead of El-Clasico to avoid chaos

Barcelona welcome bitter rivals Real Madrid to Camp Nou for their 179th El Clasico fixture on Wednesday, December 18.

Both teams are joint table-toppers with 35 points after 16 games and the winner of the crunch clash will determine which of them stays at the summit of the log.

Meanwhile, the Spanish FA has revealed that both teams would not be travelling in their team buses to security issues.

The match was initially scheduled for October 25 but it was moved due to the political unrest in Catalonia back then.

Although they are yet to resolve the issue, the authorities are devising ways to protect the players from being attacked before and after the game.

SunSport reports that Barcelona players have been told to assemble at the Princess Sofia hotel - where the Real Madrid players will also be before moving to the stadium in unmarked buses.

Spanish outlet Sport added that the teams would be accompanied by police to avoid being ambushed on their way.

Players from either clubs have a low chance of meeting as they have been assigned different areas in the hotel which is around 600m from the stadium.

Los Blancos stars are expected at the hotel a day before the match while their host Barca will meet just hours before kick-off at the same place.

SunSport report that local group Tsunami are plotting a protest against the treatment of prominent Catalan independence leaders.
