Eden Hazard will miss the upcoming December 18, El Clasico showdown after failing to recover from a broken ankle.

The Belgium international was substituted in Real Madrid's champions league draw with Paris Saint-Germain after a rash challenge from international teammate Thomas Meunier.

Real were initially given hope that the 28-year-old will only be out for ten days but Hazard was recently spotted using crutches to walk.

The former Chelsea superstar is now doubtful for the crunch top-of-the-table La Liga clash with Barcelona at the Camp Nou.

Real Madrid confirmed tests revealed a small fracture on Hazard's ankle which validates the fact that he could miss El Clasico.

A statement from the Spanish giants said: "Following tests carried out on our player, Eden Hazard, by Real Madrid's medical department, the development of the perimalleolar bruising in his right leg has seen him diagnosed with an incomplete external microfracture in the aforementioned area.

"His recovery will continue to be assessed."

Hazard has struggled to hit top form since joining Los Blancos for a mouth-watering £150million fee in the summer.

He has only managed to score one goal and provided four assists out of his 13 appearances for the Galaticos.

Zinedine Zidane's side is currently level on points with Barca and the match would decide who may likely finish the year as league leaders.
