Cristiano Ronaldo scores in Portugal's win over Luxembourg but failed to achieve 1 major feat

Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 99th international goal in Portugal's 2-0 win over Luxembourg in their final Euro 2020 qualifier.

The 34-year-old tapped-in a goal-bound ball in the 86th minute to hand the Selection a chance to defend the title they won three years ago in France.

This means that the former Real Madrid forward will wait for another time to reach a century of international goals in his career.

Ronaldo is hoping to equal, or even surpass the feat achieved by Iranian legend Ali Daei, who scored 109 international goals in just 149 games.

The forward made his international debut for Portugal against Kazakhstan in August 2003, just one week after completing joining Manchester United.

One year later, he recorded his first international goal at Euro 2004 against Greece, who went ahead to win the title in the group stage of the tournament.

In 2016, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner helped his country to win the European title having being made the team's captain in 2008.

The prolific striker also helped his national team clinched the maiden edition of the UEFA Nations League last year.

He moved close to a century of goals earlier this month after netting another hat-trick against Lithuania on Thursday night.
