Liverpool superstar Virgil van Dijk pipped Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to win Goal 2019 world's best player award.

The Dutchman got the highest number during the voting process for the top 50 players by the football website.

Van Dijk broke Ronaldo and Messi's dominance after helping the Reds clinch their first major title in over a decade last season.

The Merseyside outfit won their sixth UEFA Champions League title following their 2-0 win over Premier League rival Tottenham Hotspur in Madrid on June 1.

His performances also saw him win the UEFA best player of the year but lost the FIFA The Best prize to Lionel Messi.

Van Dijk is also among the top contenders for this year's Ballon d'Or award due for announcement next month.

Mohamed Salah is another Liverpool star in the top five best players according to the polls conducted by Goal.com.

Ronaldo finished fourth on the ranking owing to his not too fantastic performance in Serie A during his first season at Juventus.

Despite not meeting his personal target in Turin, the 34-year-old still went home with the Serie A title as well as the MVP of the season.
