Ibrahimovic, Mandzukic, 3 other players man utd could sign in January to solve their scoring problems

United's mixed run of form has them sitting seventh on the log with 13 points, an astonishing 15 points behind league pacesetters and rivals Liverpool.

However, their 1-1 draw against Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday, evening, October 20, appear to have rejuvenated the side, picking two wins on the road including a 3-1 comfortable victory over struggling Norwich City at the weekend.

Be that as it may though, the Red Devils still look less incisive infront of goal and less creative in the midfield.

This can be attributed to series of injuries that has left key players sidelined, including Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial who only made a return to action a few days ago.

To remain competitive enough, the Old Trafford dwellers may therefore have to make a couple of signings during the January window.

We take a look at some short-term options Man United can explore in January.

5. Mario Mandzukic

Juventus forward Mario Mandzukic has widely been linked with a switch to Old Trafford, with reports suggesting a deal could be reached in January.

Mandzukic could be a solid short-term signing for Man United owing to his proficiency in front of goal.

4. Ever Banega (Sevilla)

Banega could come in as a solution for Juan Mata who appear to have lost his spark in the midfield.

At 31, the Argentine can still manage to add extra creativity in their midfield that has been lacking in Pogba's absence.

3. Dries Mertens (Napoli)

Mertens' future at Napoli was thrown into uncertainty back in September after contract talks with the Italian stalled.

The prolific striker is already understood to have attracted interest from MLS and Chinese Super League clubs.

With four goals in seven Serie A appearances, the Belgian star has shown he still got it at 32 and could ease the pressure on Marcus Rashford.

2. Luka Modric (Real Madrid)

Modric is perhaps the unlikeliest transfers in the list.

However, at 34-years-old, his time at the top is coming to a close.

As such, he would fancy a new challenge in the Premier League as his career hits the homestretch and might offer the Red Devils a season or two in a supporting role.

1. Zlatan Ibrahimovic (LA Galaxy)

Many would argue at 38-year-old, Ibrahimovich is finished.

But the Swede has scored an astonishing 52 goals in 56 appearances in the MLS.

A possible return to United has already been mooted for the goal scoring sensation and would therefore offer the much-needed relief for Rashford and Anthony Martial.
