AFCON 2019: Why Nigeria's 2-1 loss to Algeria was 'not a shame' - Rohr

Head coach of Nigeria's Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr has insisted that his side's 2-1 defeat to Algeria at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, semi-final on Sunday, was not a shame.

The German tactician explained that the statistics after the encounter were even better for the Super Eagles than the Desert Foxes.

He noted that his team had 11 shots on goal and better possession of the ball.

The 66-year-old, however, said that Algeria is probably the best team at the tournament.

Addressing reporters on Tuesday ahead of Nigeria's clash with Tunisia on Wednesday, Rohr said: "After the match against Algeria, of course, it was a disappointment, a big disappointment when you lose in the last second from a free-kick, it is a disappointment.

"We analysed together the match, we saw the video with the players yesterday and we saw also that we had a good match and the statistics were even better for us, we had 11 shots on goal and we had better possession of the ball.

"Against probably the best team in the tournament, to lose in these conditions is not a shame and they have to be positive and we want to finish well together."
