Tragedy hits Zidane's family as Real Madrid boss loses brother to major terminal illness this week

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane suffered a major heartbreak after losing his elder brother, Farid, at the age of 54.

The Frenchman left Los Blancos preseason camp in Canada earlier this week but the only thing the club could say was that he went to attend to personal issues.

It has however been confirmed that the three time Champions League winning manager lost his brother having had to battle cancer for some time now.

SunSport reports that the Galacticos held a minute silence this morning to pay their tribute to the departed before their early morning ritual in Montreal.

Zidane's son, Luca, who recently joined Racing Santander on loan was also excused by his new club to be with his family.

Reports from the camp of the bereaved claims that Farid was surrounded by his family members before finally giving up the ghost in the early hours of Saturday, July 13.

Meanwhile, Los Blancos have confirmed the news in a simple message on their official website saying: " All members of the Real Madrid first-team squad held a minute's silence ahead of training in Montreal following the passing of Farid Zidane, the brother of our coach, Zinedine Zidane ."

Reports also have it that Zidane made in time to be at his brother's bed side before his death, and Real are said to have given him all the time he needed to mourn before reporting back to camp.

The squad will continue to go through their training programme under the guidance of his assistant David Bettoni.
