Liverpool star Salah in tears after South Africa sent Egypt out of 2019 AFCON tourney

Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah was full of tears after failing to help Egypt reach the quarterfinals of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations championship on home soil.

The Pharaohs were sent out of the competition by South Africa, thanks to Thembinkosi Lorch perfect finish in the 85th minute of the encounter.

It was a superb and precise pass from Lebo Mothiba after a timely counter-attacking move that ensured coach Stuart Baxter's men claim the much needed victory over the hosts.

However, the current African footballer of the year could not bear the pain of seeing his country bow out of the competition at the at the knockout stage, despite their impressive start at the tourney.

Egypt got their campaign off to a winning start with a 1-0 win over Zimbabwe, after which they defeated DR Congo and Uganda 2-0 each in their second and third meetings respectively.

They also did not concede a single goal in all of the past three outings in the first round of the championship.

Meanwhile, the Bafana Bafana ended their aim to stretch their dominance on the continental championship by sending them home with the 1-0 victory despite qualifying as a best loser.

Coach Javier Aguirre's men started the game on a bright note with Trezeguet being presented with a couple of chances, but failed to bury them at the back of the South African net.

The visitors were also at the top of their game as they were able to mark out the Egyptian key players and frustrate their plans for the entire duration of the game.

Salah and his men reached the final of the 2017 edition but lost to Cameroon in the final, but this time around, they crash out at the second round and the Liverpool star busted into tears.

He will now return to his club as they begin their preparation for the 2019-20 season after their heroic performance in Europe last season.
