Transfer: Arsenal's ex-transfer chief reveals two players Real Madrid offered Gunners

Arsenal's former transfer negotiator, Dick Law, has claimed that the club was offered Karim Benzema and Angel Di Maria by Real Madrid, before they bought Mesut Ozil.

The Gunners raided Real Madrid back in 2013, when they secured the sensational £42.5million signing of Ozil.

Law, speaking to Goal, opened up on how Madrid contacted their Premier League counterparts and gave then a list of players who were potentially available for sale.

He then flew out to the Spanish capital to meet Madrid chief Jose Angel Sanchez and after a positive meeting, he offered them Benzema and Di Maria.

Eventually, the then Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti, decided not to sell either of them.

"We sat down with Jose Angel, who said that Ancelotti didn't want to sell either of Benzema or Di Maria, but he would sell Ozil.

"Long story short, Arsene was interested as we needed that type of player in midfield. But we didn't know where Ozil stood.

"We asked to speak to him, but Madrid said they wanted to first. I don't think that was a happy phone call for Ozil. We then spoke to him and his father and business advisor flew over to London where we met with them," Law told Goal.
