Ndombele is a combative midfielder

Lyon are willing to let the 22-year-old leave after recently signing Jean Lucas from Flamengo to replace him.

The French club's president, Jean-Michel Aulas, admitted: "Ndombele is wanted by the biggest clubs. He is seeking a departure. Nothing is done but the door may be open."

Spurs did not make a single signing in the previous two transfer windows and their current record fee is £42million for Davinson Sanchez.

Lyon reportedly wanted £70m for Ndombele, and with Tottenham looking to pay £60m, the two clubs have found a compromise.

The France international is highly-rated in his home country, earning comparisons to former Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien and current star N'Golo Kante.

He caught the eye with two impressive displays against Manchester City in the Champions League last season.

His combination of power and technical ability make him an old-fashioned box-to-box midfielder, who can be effective in attack or defence.

As recently as 2016, he was playing in the fifth tier of French football with Amiens' reserve team, before a meteoric rise with Lyon saw him earn a call-up for France in October 2018.
