Transfer: Real reason De Ligt's move to Barcelona collapsed

Barcelona have ended their interest in Ajax captain, Matthijs De Ligt, because he wanted too much money, Marca reports.

It is understood that Barca baulked at the 19-year-old's demand to earn £10million a year.

A deal that would ultimately have cost them more than 130million euros (£116million).

The transfer with Ajax would have cost an estimated 75million euros plus add-ons and the centre-back had asked for 12million euros net per year.

Over the period of a five-year contract, it would cost the club 60 million euros just for his salary.

De Ligt was widely expected to move to the Nou Camp this summer, but now looks set to sign for Juventus.

It is believed a deal for £62million has been struck between the Serie A champions and Ajax.
