Man United transfer news: Belgium boss Roberto Martinez says Romelu Lukaku must leave Old Trafford

Romelu Lukaku has been urged to leave Manchester United this summer by Belgium manager Roberto Martinez.

The 26-year-old fell out of favour under manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford last season, and has been expected to be part of a substantial clear out from the club.

United have been in negotiations with Inter Milan over a deal for the big Belgian, with a swap deal suggested, and even personal terms being agreed for Lukaku.

The transfer is yet to be completed, but Martinez is adamant that it needs to be done, not just for the good of the player, but also the club.

'It is clear that he has to leave Manchester United,' Martinez told HLN.

'It would be a good thing for both parties. It is now important that Romelu finds the right club.'

Lukaku arrived from Everton in the summer of 2017 and has gone on to score 42 goals in 96 appearances for the Red Devils.

He cost United around £75m and they are hoping to get that amount for his services this summer with the striker still in his prime and highly sought-after across Europe.

The forward has also made no secret of the fact that he wants to move to Italy, specifically to work with Antonio Conte at Inter.

'Good that Conte went to Inter, for me, he is the best coach in the world,' Lukaku told Mediaset.

'As for my future, I have already made a decision that I still cannot communicate publicly out of respect for Manchester United with whom I have a contract.

'I am a big Serie A fan, those close to me know that I have always wanted to play in the English league and in the Italian one, I love Italy.

'And then Cristiano Ronaldo arrived, Sarri will go to Juventus, Ancelotti is at Napoli, it will be an exciting Serie A.

'The club and my agent will talk about it but I have already made my decision.'
