Jubilation as Super Eagles star wins 1 prestigious individual honour in England

Super Eagles midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo is celebrating Stoke City's Player of the Year award after receiving the trophy on Sunday, May 6, at the bet365 Stadium.

The 23-year-old Nigerian international took to the social media moment after Sunday's final game of the campaign against Sheffield United to share the cheering news.

Etebo, who started his career at Warri Wolves, spent three season at the Oil-City before jetting heading to Portuguese side Feirense.


He moved to Stoke City in June 2018 for a fee of £6.35 million after a six month loan spell at Spanish side Las Palmas in the 2017-18 season.

In the just concluded season, Etebo made 32 appearances, netting twice alongside two assist from his defensive midfielder role.

"It's a thing of joy winning the SW Stoke City player of the year and I just want to use this opportunity to appreciate the fans for their support indeed you guys will stay in my heart, " Etebo wrote in a short message tweeted with his picture receiving the award.

Interestingly, statistics from whoscored.com revealed that Etebo despite getting most votes from the fans to emerge Stoke player of the year, he was Stoke's fifth best player for their performance in EFL Championship.

The Eagles midfielder was rated 6.76 after 2552 minutes of football for the Potters to finish at 171 spot after the likes of Joe Allen (6.99 rating in 4132 minutes), Tom Ince (6.82 rating in 3102 minutes) and Sam Clucas (6.78 rating in 2006 minutes).
