In what could be termed as a major blow for Liverpool, Brazil forward Roberto Firmino, will miss the Champions League semi-final second leg against Barcelona on Tuesday, May 7, due to a muscle injury.
The 27-year-old who was a late substitute when both teams clashed at Camp Nou in the first leg, will not be ready for the second leg, according to his manager Jurgen Klopp.
"He will not be ready for Tuesday and the rest we will see," said the German after watching his side return to the top-flight summit with a 3-2 win against Newcastle.
Premier League leaders Liverpool could also miss the services of top scorer Mohamed Salah who suffered a head injury during their vital 3-2 win at St James' Park.
Salah was on target during the encounter but was forced off on a stretcher as the Reds claimed a dramatic win against Newcastle to ensure the Premier League title race enters the final week of the season.
Mohammed Salah's horror collision with Newcastle keeper Martin Dubravka somewhat tainted the crucial win, but it was the man who came on for him Divock Origi that nodded home the winner, with just four minutes left on the stop watch to keep Liverpool's title hopes alive.
The possibility of missing both Firmino and Salah for the return leg against Barcelona makes it an even tougher task for the Reds.
Liverpool require a three-goal victory to have a chance at forcing extra-time and should Barcelona score a goal at Anfield, the Reds would then need a four-goal win in order to advance to the final.
