Solskjaer reveals what he said to Lionel Messi after Man United defeat to Barcelona

Manchester United boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has opened up on the conversation he had with Lionel Messi after his side's defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League.

Messi was not in perfect shape during the Wednesday night, April 10, clash as he was unable to keep up with United's intensity and physicality.

Chris Smalling's nasty challenge on the Argentine midway through the first half of the match left the star forward with a bloodied nose.

Moments after the full-time whistle, Solskjaer was caught on camera having a conversation with Messi, but the Norwegian has played down the chat when asked what he said to the Barca superstar.

"'All the best and see you next week. That's it," the United manager was quoted saying.

"He's a fantastic player. We did as well as we could against him. We kept our shape well," he added.

Meanwhile, Luke Shaw's own goal in the 12th minute off Luis Suarez's header was the difference as Barcelona cart away with a crucial away victory.

The Red Devils will now be seeking to make amends during the second leg of the fixture at Camp Nou for a chance to seal a semi final place.
