His brace gave his club a 2-1 win over FC Porto in the first leg of their round of 16 Champions League encounter.

Zaniolo has now became the youngest Italian player ever to hit twice in a Champions League tie and also equaled the record of Paris-Saint-Germain youngster Kylian Mbappe.

2018 World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe was the youngest to score in the knockout round in the Champions League in May 2017.

Nicolo Zaniolo was however over the moon after a record-breaking turn on Tuesday night led his side to victory scoring against legend Iker Casillas.

"It's an incredible night, I am speechless and never would've expected such a thing," he told Sky Sport Italia when questioned on his feat.

Nicolo, 19, is the son of striker Igor Zaniolo who enjoyed moderate success in the lower rank of the Italian football ladder.

He spent 2016/17 at Virtus Entella in Serie B, but his real breakthrough came in September 2018 after joining Italian giants Roma.

Meanwhile, Roma will have to protect their defense very well in the second leg in Portugal because FC Porto will only need to win 1-0 to qualify for the quarterfinal.
