Super Eagles captain Mikel escapes plane crash with teammates after engine failure

John Mikel Obi and his teammates had to travel by road after Middlesbrough's flight for their match against Leeds United was canceled due to engine failure.

The Riverside outfit were forced to turn back at the Cardiff Airport runway after they were knocked out of the FA Cup by League Two club Newport County.

Tony Pulis' side had to re-board the team and return to their base by road which made team sleep on the bus.

Boro crashed out of the FA Cup to the League Two side on the heavy pitch that just passed a pre-match inspection.

Before the team's arrival at south Wales for the match, their flight was delayed for two hours because of bad weather.

Their forth coming match game against Championship leaders Leeds could have a big bearing on their promotion back to topflight action.

Middlesbrough were one of 11 clubs who wrote to the English Football League asking for clarification after Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa admitted to spying on his opponents in their home games.
