Here is how over 10,000 people are 'battling' for N18m in Nigeria (photos)

Top athletes like Kigen Kipkosgei, Patrick Kipyegon Terar, Agnes Jeruto Kiptocich are among the over 10,000 athletes contesting at this year's Lagos City Marathon, which commenced at exactly 6.30 am in the National stadium in Surulere.

While some of these top stars are making a return to compete in the IAAF Bronze Label race, others will be making their debuts.

A grand prize of $50,000 each is up for grabs for the winner of the men and women's 42km race while 2nd and 3rd place will get $40,000 and $30,000 respectively.
The athletes compete in the 42km race which we see them start up at the National stadium and finish at Eko Atlantic, the end point of the event.

There is also a 10km race also in the Lagos City Marathon which is in its fourth edition and is now an IAAF Bronze Label race.

Winners of the 10km race will each get a brand new car from Kia Motors, while the 2nd and 3rd place winners will get N1 million and N750,000 respectively.

In the Wheelchair category, the top finishers will get N1million while 2nd and 3rd positions will get N750,000 and N500,000 respectively.
