Maurizio Sarri reveals when Morata told him he wanted to leave Chelsea

Maurizio Sarri who is the gaffer of Chelsea has made it clear that Spanish striker Alvaro Morata had concluded his mind to leave the Premier League club since December 2018.

Alvaro Morata who joined Chelsea from Real Madrid is now on the verge of making a move to Spanish club Atletico Madrid where he will play on loan until the end of the season.

It has now been revealed that the 26-year-old striker has been planning to leave Stamford Bridge since last month.

Morata's decision to have told Chelsea coach Maurizio Sarri that he wanted to leave forced the Blues to sign Argentine football star Gonzalo Higuain.

He has scored nine goals in 24 appearances for the Blues this season and has failed to hit the heights expected of him at Stamford Bridge under new manager Sarri.

''Morata is potentially a very good player. He has the characteristics for playing in my team, but one month ago he said he wanted to play for another team.

''It was very difficult for him to give us 100 per cent because of his mental situation. He is very suitable for my football, but the situation has changed in the last month, so we needed to change.

''In the January market it is very difficult to get a very good striker. Gonzalo was in a situation we could try to get him, so we decided to try,'' Sarri told Chelsea website.

Chelsea are currently occupying fourth position on the Premier League standings with 47 points after 23 games played this season.
