Chelsea agree deal to sign Gonzalo Higuain from Juventus

Chelsea are set to sign Gonzalo Higuain on an initial loan deal after agreeing a move with his parent club Juventus.

The Argentine is currently on loan at AC Milan but is keen to reunite with his former manager Maurizio Sarri at Stamford Bridge.

Sarri has made no secret of his desire to sign a striker and wanted Higuain last summer, only for the 31-year-old to decide on staying in Italy.

Higuain's loan move to Milan has complicated negotiations but Sky Italy are reporting that Chelsea have now agreed the move with Juventus.

The Argentina international will join on loan for the remainder of the season and the deal will include an option to buy, though a figure is not specified.

Should Chelsea decide against using that option, they can also extend Higuain's stay by another 12 months on loan - effectively keeping him at the club from Juventus until 2020.

AC Milan must give the green light to deal before allowing it to go through but that's expected to be a formality.

Higuain's arrival means Alvaro Morata is almost certain to leave with Atletico Madrid leading the race for his signature.

The Spaniard has been out of favour under Sarri this term with the Italian preferring to use Eden Hazard in a central position instead.
