It is no more news that Jose Mourinho has been relieved of his duties as head coach of Manchester United due to the club struggles in the Premier league this season.

What is newsy about his sack was that majority of the players at Old Trafford wanted the Portuguese tactician gone.

It will be recalled that the Portuguese tactician had multiple issues with a couple of players on and off the pitch.

One of which made him strip Paul Pogba of his vice captaincy role earlier this season, and also referred to him as virus.

However, the club's vice chairman Ed Woodward was said to have organised a secret meeting consulting all the players before reaching a decision.

According to Give Me Sport quoting the Mirror revealed that only Nemanja Matic and Romelu Lukaku wanted the manager to remain.

"Nemanja Matic and Romelu Lukaku are believed to have pledged their allegiance to the manager. " Give Me Sport citing reports from the Mirror writes.

Mourinho signed both player after arriving in 2016 - with Lukaku costing the club about 75 million pounds and Matic valued at €44.7 million on his arrival at the club.

United after sacking the 55-year-old released a statement on their website saying: " Manchester United announces that manager Jose Mourinho has left the club with immediate effect .

"The club would like to thank Jose for his work during his time at Manchester United and to wish him success in the future.

"A new caretaker manager will be appointed until the end of the current season, while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new, full-time manager. "
