Revealed: Why Ronaldo will reportedly not be attending Ballon d'Or despite making top 3 list

Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly planning to boycott this year's Ballon d'Or award ceremony having learnt about the winner.

The 33-year-old has already lost two major awards to his former teammate Luka Modric earlier this year.

SunSport however reveals that the ex-Manchester United goal machine might finish behind Real Madrid star once again at the end of the event.

Apart from Ronaldo, Modric and Antoinne Griezmann makes the three man shortlist for the prize this year - leaving Barcelona's Lionel Messi out of the equation.

Football leaks revealed that the Croatian playmaker will beat the 2016 UEFA European Champion to win the Balllon D'or award.

Few weeks after winning the FIFA best men's player prize for helping his national team reach their first ever World Cup final in Russia.

He was also instrumental to his club's third successive Champions League in May after beating Liverpool 3-1 in Kiev.

If Modric does indeed lift the trophy, it will be the first time since 2007 - when Kaka won the award - that it has not gone to Messi or Ronaldo.

Messi and Ronaldo have shared the last ten titles between themselves with the Argentine lifting it in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2015.

While his rival first claimed it in 2008 then regained it in 2013 and 2014 and has lifted it for the past two years.

The Kopa Award, for best young player, is reportedly heading to Kylian Mbappe, for his efforts in firing France to a second World Cup triumph and impressive season with title winners Paris Saint-Germain.
