Manchester City beat Barcelona, Man Utd to sign £60m midfielder as Fernandinho's replacement

Premier League champions, Manchester City are ahead of Barcelona and Manchester United to sign Ajax midfielder, Frenkie De Jong.

According to the Mirror UK, De Jong is on his way to City and the likes of Barca and United have given up on the prospect of luring th e 21-year-old away from the Citizens.

The report claimed that City's coach, Pep Guardiola wants the Dutch international to replace midfielder, Fernandinho at the Etihad.

The report also claimed that Guardiola aims to build a defensive midfielder to take charge at the club for the next ten years.

Meanwhile, De Jong's agent, Ali Dursun had recently confirmed that City was interest in signing his player.

"City are leading the race for De Jong's signature," Dursun said. "I can neither confirm or deny this.

"You should ask (Ajax director) Marc Overmars. I send all clubs that contact me over to him."

De Jong played full 90 minutes against France in his side's 2-0 victory over the world champions on Friday in an international fixture.
