Bayern Munich star Franck Ribery has tendered an apology for assaulting a journalist Patrick Guillou following criticism after their defeat to rivals Borussia Dortmund in the Klassiker showdown.

The Bayern Munich winger, was involved in a physical assault on the French journalist Patrick Guillou, who reports for beIN Sports.

According to a UK Sun report, eyewitnesses claim the 35-year-old Frenchman pushed and slapped the reporter, but has now made a U-turn to meet with Guillou and formally apologise face-to-face.

"I've had an appointment with Patrick Guillou and it was good that he came to Munich.

"We talked together for a long time and about what happened after the match in Dortmund.

"Of course, what I did was wrong. After the match, I was very emotional.

"I said sorry to Patrick and his family yesterday. And I hope that we can leave this behind - that's why this meeting was important for him and for me," Ribery said in video clip uploaded on Bayern's official website.

However, it is not certain that that the winger will not receive further punishment from the Bundesliga giants, with the club confirming they are dealing with the issue internally.
