Reigning Spanish champions Barcelona are now the first football club in the world to reach $1 billion revenue figures mark and the Catalans even achieved this four years earlier than anticipated.
Barcelona announced in a statement on their social media page that they were able to achieve this success because they are the highest sports earning club in the world.

This is the the fifth consecutive year that the club have broken their own record income but the first time that they have reached the billion dollar mark.
The transfer of Brazilian star Neymar to Paris-Saint-Germain also helped Barcelona to record such high revenue, UK Sun reports.

Neymar's big buyout clause was accounted for in the end of year report.
