Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos reveals Ronaldo is now in the past

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has said his former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo is now in the past.
The Portuguese superstar left the Santiago Bernabeu after nine year in the Spanish capital for a club record €112m.

The former Manchester United star won three consecutive Champions League titles and his fourth for the Spanish side.

Ramos said: "He has marked an era in Madrid, has broken all records, but he is already the past. We cannot live on what he did in the past.

"His hole is very big but it has been covered by other players with a lot of ambition and we have a great squad to compete. We always have a lot of love for the top players but when they are not there we have to continue.
"We wish him the best, as long as he does not cross us."

The Spain international was also asked if the current Madrid squad is better off without the 33-year-old.

"I respect the opinion of the whole world. Cris gave us a lot and took away little.
"Now we have to adapt to another style, we have more possession and another way to hurt the opponent."

Jueln Lopetegui's side will begin the defence of their Champions League title without Ronaldo as welcome last season's finalists Roma.

Los Blancos dropped their first point of the season in La Liga when they were held to a 1-1 draw away to Atletic Bilbao.
